Created by up-and-coming playwright Wendell Tucker, I Still Love H.E.R. (atributetohiphop) has challenged and entertained Chicago audiences for six years with a stunning mélange of music, dance, and cultural analysis. The show centers around Love 1, a Chicago radio fixture on the brink of retirement who delivers his final broadcast as a eulogy to what he sees as the dying art of hip-hop and his own ambition to create a radio talk show about abstract expressionist paintings. The personified spirit of hip-hop arrives mid-broadcast, aiming to complicate Love 1's narrative of artistic decline with her own story of the history and politics of the genre. Classic hip-hop tracks present a backdrop to dazzling dance numbers and dialogue on such subjects as feminism, racism, and violence. The Viaduct Theatre's intimate environs encourage audiences to engage with the show, clapping along to well-known beats or revving gas-powered hedge trimmers along to uplifting melodies.

Cc: If I could give less than a single star I would. I bought a Groupon from this place and he refuses to honor it until I prepay a mandatory $40 gratuity fee via credit card. He also wanted an additional $10 because 11:30pm was too late to pick us up (even though the Groupon states up to midnight). Nowhere on the Groupon does it say prepaid gratuity is mandatory. It say "a 20% gratuity is suggested".
